Afganistan

This is a collection of photographs that unveils moments from a country of many contrasts captured by American photographer and traveller Steve McCurry, who has long been inspired by it. They are truly admirable and unique photographs that originated in a war-torn land, in Afghanistan.

Fate of the Country

Each of us connects this mountainous country of Central Asia with seemingly ceaseless wars which, unfortunately, has vexed it for many long decades. From the British Empire in the 19th century to the former Soviet Union during the 1980s and now the United States of America installing “order” with the local Taliban there.

Afghanistan

The greatest pain, however, has been endured by the Afghani people, the local, simple people who are still today battling with the poverty and fear that vex their mental and physical wounds from the ceaseless unrest. Once Afghanistan was a highly favoured tourist destination, especially thanks to the charming, untouched nature and the interesting culture; however, the fate of the country has changed to the unknown.

Objectives Full of Stories

Despite all the changes that have taken place in Afghanistan in the past decades, Steve McCurry was able to create over the last 40 years a collection of beautiful photographs that put a smile on your face but at the same time bring tears to your eyes.

Afghanistan

The courageous and purposeful McCurry travelled to various picturesque and also dangerous corners in rough geological conditions in order to photograph the unique local people in their daily lives as well as the nature and beauty of the landscape.
