Modern living can be both stylish and environmentally friendly. If you want to learn how to blend aesthetics, sustainability, and functionality, take inspiration from experts who demonstrate that an eco-friendly home can be achieved without any compromises.
Bright and airy homes are trending these days. This can be achieved by using glass as an important material in construction and interior design. Glass is light and at the same time space and heat. “When designing, it is necessary to take it into account. Contact with nature is acquired mainly visually. With the current high-tech lifestyle, it is important not to lose contact with nature. This requirement can be met by suitable housing design,” says interior designer Katarína Kubišová.
Interior Design Essentials
When designing an interior, it makes sense to invest in quality, durable materials that will last for years, maybe a lifetime. In the past, it was often mainly about price, but today it is more important to create spaces that are functional and timeless. A modern interior should serve as a natural meeting place where aesthetics are combined with practicality.
An important aspect is also the logical arrangement of the space. Every element should have its place, whether it’s the kitchen or other parts of the home. The right layout will ensure that the rooms are not only stylish but also economical and environmentally friendly, which leads to lower energy consumption and overall household efficiency.
When Wood then Wood
Today’s interior design emphasizes timelessness, elegance, quality materials, and functionality. A key element in this approach is the choice of materials: if wood is used, it should be real wood; if metal is involved, it should be authentic. These honest materials not only age beautifully but also last a long time. With careful attention to detail and a thoughtful layout, a kitchen or any other space can become the standout feature of the entire home.
Custom kitchens remain a popular choice as they maximize space while combining aesthetics with functionality. In addition to using high-quality materials, many people are now seeking built-in appliances equipped with smart technology. These innovations not only streamline daily tasks but also help save energy and water, and reduce environmental impact.
The future will bring even more innovation, including connecting the interior with the exterior. There will be areas where fresh herbs and vegetables are easily accessible, turning food preparation into a social event. As a result, the kitchen will not just be a place for cooking; it will also serve as a natural gathering space.
Kitchen Materials and Design
The body of the kitchen can be made of wood or chipboard, but it is worth investing a few euros more in the parts we touch every day because, in the end, they will bring savings. Wooden worktop, real concrete or metal age beautifully. These materials can be sanded, but they may not look perfect and pristine. On the contrary, the patina is supposed to reflect the fact that we live in a kitchen. Minimalist style is very popular today when it comes to interior design. “However, it is important to maintain the right degree of minimalism so that it does not limit functionality,” warns interior designer K. Kubišová. “Fortunately, there are already manufacturers in Slovakia and the Czech Republic who can bring design, purpose, and beauty to our homes. We can use it on the doors of interesting designs and different heights without frames that separate the interior, but at the same time do not need thresholds.” In addition to doors, it is also worth investing in skirting boards with lighting that will give the interior a modern touch.
Interior Design Trends
If you’re considering staircases indoors, experts recommend choosing timeless self-supporting staircases. “They can be made of a combination of various noble materials such as wood, concrete, and tempered glass, but they can also be all-metal or stainless steel. According to the design, they can be a solitaire or, on the contrary, they can be unobtrusive and let the surrounding interior stand out,” says Tomáš Barbořík, director of J.A.P. Slovakia. In the future of housing, the harmony of colors, shapes, light, and scents decides. The interior is supposed to protect us from external weather, but at the same time, it should not take us out of the environment in which we live. In bathrooms, hallways, and well-lit rooms, consider using graphic glass on the doors. “Today, technology makes it possible to incorporate any pattern into a glass door, and I mean really any pattern. Graphics, plastic, wallpaper… Anything you see in the picture or what the picture can be made of can be on a glass door or, better said, in a glass door. It looks really impressive. Thanks to such doors, interior designers can play with the space both optically and aesthetically,” concludes Barbořík.
